The Symposium on Ethics and Bio-Safety of Synthetic Biology was held in Suzhou on June 24-26, 2010. It was organized by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), co-organized by Beijing Institutes of Life Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (BIOLS, CAS) and Chinese Society of Biotechnology (CSBT).

The symposium included two topics regarding synthetic biology: ethics and bio-safety. More than 40 researchers from CAS and other institutions attended the symposium. CAS academician YANG Huanming, BIOLS vice president Dr. GAO Fu (also known as Dr. George F. GAO) and professor of Institute of Microbiology (IM) Dr. LI Yin hosted the symposium in different sessions respectively. All the attendees had an in-depth discussion around the two topics of synthetic biology; most of them emphasized the importance of promoting the development of synthetic biology in China.
