On October 16, 2009 annual conference of Beijing Life Science Regional Core Facility was held at Beijing Institutes of Life Sciences (BIOLS). Attendees were from members of Beijing Life Science Regional Core Facility, including officers or staffs from Institute of Zoology, Institute of Process Engineering, Institute of Genomics, Institute of Microbiology, Institute of Psychology, Institute of Genetics and Development, and Institute of Botany. Mr. Yougui Miao from Bureau of Planning and Financa was also invited to this conference.

The conference was hosted by Dr. Le Kang, President of BIOLS. Dr. Kang indicated that Chinese Academy of Sciences promote scientific development through focusing on research projects, research personnel and research equipment. Facing the increasingly competitive environment, Regional core facility is crucial for the improvement of research equipment, and should play leading roles in Chinese Academy of Sciences. He insisted that Beijing Life Science Regional Core facility should have a unified plan, promote collaboration, and be open for public.

On the conference, the representative of Beijing Life Science Regional Core facility, Dr. Liu Li, reported the progress of the core facility during the past year. Attendees from different institutes also presented the current status of regional core facility in their units, and described the preliminary plan for “12^th five-year” facility construction. Mr. Miao gave high evaluation for the Beijing Life Science Regional Core facility, and detailedly explained the “12^th five-year” project on research facility construction.

During the communication, attendees summarized the progress of Beijing Life Science Regional Core Facility during the past year, analyzed the problems during construction and operation, and proposed the future plan on “12^th five-year” research facility project. Beijing Life Science Regional Core Facility will work on the long-term plan for “12^th five-year” research facility project based on the experiences of individual core facility.
