Beijing Institutes of Life Science (BIOLS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is a modern research center for biological and biomedical studies. BIOLS provides supports for interdisciplinary research and graduate education, promotes international collaboration and exchange, and organizes national and international academic forum and conferences.

　　Since CAS started to establish BIOLS and approved the Development Program of BIOLS, Director Lu and Deputy Director Li of CAS inspected the progress for multiple times and gave valuable suggestions on the development of BIOLS. During the construction, BIOLS worked hard to conquer various difficulties to meet the specific requirements, to optimize the infrastructure plan, and to improve the efficiency of operation and management. On Jun 27, 2009, BIOLS successfully passed the examination by the Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, CAS.

　　Directed by the Scientific Development Strategy, BIOLS continues to meet the requirements of China, to provide supports for basic and clinical research, and to promote active interdisciplinary studies. Focusing on the long-term goals and current research programs, BIOLS organized an Academic Committee composed by high-reputated scientists, established the Forum of Life Sciences in Beijing, and funded the academic conferences and lectures in interdisciplinary areas. In addition, BIOLS established public facilities and regional instrument centers to support research in life sciences.

　　Finally, BIOLS would like to acknowledge all the people that support the establishment and development of BIOLS. Facing the long-term strategies of CAS, BIOLS is aware of its responsibilities and pressure. BIOLS will keep these missions in mind and make the best contribution to life science and biotechnology in China.
